Marketing (and earning money) on the Internet can make use of a simple tool called Google Adsense. Among the gains of using Google Adsense is the fact that it can be used for earning money and it is worth spending some time to see how Adsense does this.
With the consent of the site owner, small contextual ads called as Google Adsense are published on their sites. The ads are created by publishers that are selling products and/or creating brand awareness. Adwords is what these ads are termed and it is a program sponsored by Google.
The two programs of Google Adwords and Adsense run side by side. Every time someone does a search on Google or one of their partner networks and clicks on one of the sponsored ads, then the person who created that ad will pay Google a predetermined price. This has become known as "pay per click".
When Google receives money from the creator or publisher of the ad, they have to split the amount with the person who owns or hosts the site that the Adwords ads appear and that is the beauty of Adsense. It is a well guarded secret what the percentage of the split is, and it does vary, but for our purposes let's say it's 50%.
If a publisher is willing to pay .40 per click for his Adwords ad, then the host of the website that welcomes Adsense can expect to see roughly .20 every time someone clicks on that ad that appears on their site. Google keeps the remaining .20. Google and the site owners can therefore be considered partners.
Adsense is shown in the most relevant way possible. What does this mean? An example will help in illustrating this. Imagine a women's clothing site owned by Mary. If Mary wished to utilize the Google Adsense scheme on her website, the ads would be for women's clothing. If a page of her site was dedicated to shoes, then the Adsense ads appearing on that page would be for women's shoes.
So how do we determine the price per click? This is where the Adwords side of the equation kicks in. Keywords are bid on by Adwords publishers. The amount that the publisher will pay per click is dependent on the value of the keyword. Keywords range anywhere from a few cents to in excess of $50 per click.
It doesn't take a genius to see how a popular site with a lot of traffic can make quite a bit of money through Google Adsense. Many Internet marketers have put sites on the web with specific content, just to attract the high paying Adsense ads. -
