Marketing (and earning money) on the Internet can make use of a simple tool called Google Adsense. Google Adsense can be used to make not inconsiderable amounts of money, so it is worth spending the time to study how Adsense works.
Small contextual ads published on web sites with the consent of the site owner is Google Adsense. Publishers that are selling products and/or creating brand awareness create the ads. The ads that are created are called Adwords and they are also a Google sponsored program.
Google Adwords and Adsense run hand in hand. Every time someone does a search on Google or one of their partner networks and clicks on one of the sponsored ads, then the person who created that ad will pay Google a predetermined price. This is how the term 'pay per click' came into being.
Google has to split the money they receive from the creator or publisher of the ad with the person who owns or hosts the site that the Adwords ads appear and that is the uniqueness of Adsense. For our purposes, let's assume the split is 50%, but it is a well guarded secret what exactly the percentage of the split is, but it does vary.
If a publisher is willing to pay .40 per click for his Adwords ad, then Google get .20 and the host of the site that welcomes Adsense can expect go get .20 every time someone clicks on the ad that appears on their site. So basically it is a partnership of sorts between Google and site owners.
Adsense is shown in the most appropriate manner possible. What does this indicate? Well, let me give an example that probably illustrates it best. Mary had a site, let's say, featuring women's clothing. Ads on clothing or specifically women's clothing can be shown on Mary's site, if Mary decides to monetize her site with Google Adsense. In her site if shoes are dedicated to a particular page, then on that page there would be Adsense ads appearing for women's shoes.
So what determines the price per click? Now is when the equation of Adwords comes in. Publishers who create Adwords bid on keywords. The publisher will be willing to pay more for each click if the keyword is more lucrative or sought after. Sometimes a keyword is in excess of $50 per click or sometimes a few cents per click.
It wouldn't be surprising to see someone making some nice money by putting Google Adsense on their site and if their site is generating a decent amount of traffic. Specific content is created by Internet marketers with the sole purpose of attracting high paying Adsense ads. -
