Most of the Internet marketing community is at least somewhat familiar with earning money through Google Adsense at this point. Having a good working knowledge of Adsense is meaningful as it can help you establish a successful undertaking through Google Adsense (and earning money.)
Google Adsense is small contextual ads that are published on web sites with the consent of the web site's owner. Publishers create the ads in order to either sell, or create brand awareness. The ads which have been created belong to another program sponsored by Google, called Adwords.
Google Adwords and Adsense are very closely linked. Every time someone does a search on Google or one of their partner networks and clicks on one of the sponsored ads, then the person who created that ad will pay Google a predetermined price. This is how the phrase "pay per click" originates.
Now the beauty of Adsense is that the person who owns or hosts the web site that the Adwords ads appear on will split the amount of money that Google receives from the creator or publisher of the ad. The percentage of the split does very and it is a well guarded secret what the percentage of the split it, but let's say it's 50% for our purposes.
If the ad creator is fine to pay .40 per click for his Adwords ad, then the website host who has joined the Adsense scheme can expect to receive approximately .20 when the ad is clicked. The other .20 is kept by Google. Google and the web site owners can therefore be considered partners.
In the most relevant way possible Adsense is shown. What does this entail? Well, probably the best way to illustrate this would be through an example. Let's say Mary had a web site featuring women's clothing. Google Adsense once Mary decides to monetize her web site can help her to show ads on her web site that would be related to clothing or to be more specific, women's clothing. If a page of her web site was dedicated to shoes, then the Adsense ads appearing on that page would be for women's shoes.
So how do we calculate how much revenue a click generates? This is where the Adwords side of the equation kicks in. Adwords publishers bid on keywords. If a keyword is particularly sought after, then the publisher will pay more per click. The value of keywords can be anywhere from a few cents to over $50 for each click.
It is easy to see how someone with a high traffic web site can generate quite a bit of revenue by teaming up with Google Adsense. Several Internet marketers will actually create specifically targeted websites in order to attract lucrative Adsense ads. -
